“Chief Mark Adam and Lt. Scott Sonneborn have given a combined total of more than 50 years of service to the people of Olmsted Township,” Trustee Riley A. Alton said. “They’ve seen the police department change, grow and further professionalize over the years.

“When you’re looking for excellent leadership, there is simply no substitute for that level of experience, perspective and commitment to the community. The trustees agree that the Township is in good hands with these two, so we felt that we should compensate them in a manner that better reflects the dignity of their work.”

The current annual salaries — which were increased last year — are $99,000 for the police chief and $89,680 for the police lieutenant.

The 7 percent police chief salary increase and 10 percent police lieutenant salary increase are effective on Sunday (Feb. 18).

Township Administrator Gary Yelenosky said the Board of Trustees conducted a comprehensive evaluation of all pay rates within the police department.

“It was determined that adjustments were necessary for the chief and lieutenants to align with current market conditions and merit increases,” he said.

“The Board of Trustees wanted to acknowledge their hard work and, concurrently, aim to re-establish the police department’s pay scale.”
